  • Abnormalities of bones and joints
  • Trauma either direct or indirect to the head and neck from a fall or an accident

  • Muscle sprains (most common cause of neck pain)

Injuries Often Associated With Neck Pain

  • Whiplash injuries from sports and car accidents
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome (compression of nerves/blood vessels in the neck shoulder region)
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Nerve entrapments and radiculopathy (affected nerve does not function properly)

Treatment Of Neck Pain

  • Reducing muscle spasm or contraction
  • Reducing compression on associated nerves/blood vessels
  • Treatments for neck pain are most commonly associated to muscle sprains which can be treated with good results by physiotherapy or massage therapy

    To see any of our health practitioners we do not require a doctor’s referral. However some services that are covered by your extended health plan may require a doctor’s referral in order to be reimbursed for expenses.

  • Can physiotherapy help neck pain?

    You should seek treatment if pain lasts more than a few days, returns frequently, or limits your movement.

  • What treatments are used?

    Yes, physiotherapy targets the root cause to improve mobility, strength, and long-term function.

  • How long does recovery take?

    Direct billing is available to some insurance companies. Currently most plans from Sunlife, Great West Life and Manulife (beginning Jan.1.14) offer direct billing. All insurance plans related to Motor Vehicle Accident claims allow direct billing. If the claim is an accident that is work related, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board also allows direct billing.
